Montessori and Childcare Program – 18 months to 6 years old

Philosophies

The early years are a crucial time for children’s development. Victoria Education Centre provides a blended approach to teaching the whole child that incorporates the Montessori Methods and the Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years. Students are engaged in active learning with the use of hands-on experiences with people, materials, events and ideas. Students become independent thinkers and doers that will help them develop the necessary skills required in the later years.

Montessori Approach

The goal of the Montessori philosophy is to develop the whole personality of each child. Each individual student is different, and should therefore be respected for their uniqueness and ability to learn at their own pace. Montessori based classrooms provide a prepared environment where children are free to respond to their natural drives to work and learn. The children’s’ inherent love of learning is encouraged by giving them opportunities to engage in spontaneous, meaningful activities under the guidance of trained Montessori teachers. Through their work, the students develop concentration, motivation, perseverance, and discipline. Within this framework of order, they progress at their own pace and rhythm, according to their own individual capabilities.

Victoria Education Centre Montessori and Child Care offers a learning program that is consistent with the Ministry of Education policies, pedagogy and curriculum, and focuses on the foundations for learning outlined in the document, “How Does Learning Happen?”

We believe that every child:

Needs to have a sense of belonging and that they feel connected to others, and are able to contribute to their world
Needs to develop a strong sense of self, health and wellbeing
Is an active and engaged learner that will explore the world with body, mind and senses
Is a capable communicator who can express themselves in many ways
